Back To The Beginning

First off, big apologies for the slight delay with the release of my World#2 to the public. With the run up to Christmas, I naturally, like so many, have been extremely busy and haven't managed to finish the final details of compacting the file together. I hope to release it in the new year. Apologies again, but life happens.

So, anyone remember this world?:

This is the other post that I was going to do before Christmas.

This old world was the first saved world I made! It can be found at the very beginning of this blog, with it's development. The idea of the world was building a home on different mountains and building "Sky-bridges" between them across the sky. When 1.5 beta came out I found the seed and did a beta version with the seed (Found using Minecraft tools). Unfortunately because the terrain generation I didn't get exactly the same terrain (Spawn point and beyond it across the sea, and beyond the second mountain.), however, the initial center area with the two, mountains and mine at ground level was exactly the same. I did love the new version of that wooden home though.

Thinking about that just before Christmas, I wondered about redoing the idea again - a "What if" scenario as in "What I did it after a year of laying Minecraft, in 1.0). I couldn't re-use the seed as before for the same reason - terrain generation, so, I decided instead to just copy the world and rename it. This would make things slightly harder  - (exhausted caves, finding ores) , but it would mean I would have to travel further, something I never really did with this world back in 2010 when I started it.

See a gallery of World#1: Here.

First things first, was pulling down the second home, the wooden hut by hand and saving the resources! Includes a few "before" shots before the work began.

Note: From here on in, I didn't use the later texture pack, painterly, as it was so out-dated and later versions with new objects would just be white blocks. So I have used default.

And now the de-construction! I couldn't use TNT as I needed to keep all the resources, everything will be re-used.

Something I never did originally, as seen in the last picture, was landscaping. As you can see the base for the house is filled out a lot more and much more squarer as a base. I've kept the path pretty much exactly as it is, except for the first corner where it turns, with a squarer base it means nor strange diagonal walls inside like there originally was. When I sat through night time, there were a LOT of mob noises from underneath me, so during the last part of the night as it ted day I filled in what was a massive hole under the base. (I had forgotten that was there!)

In the morning, I used the resources of the old house to begin making the new one, also chopping down all the old trees in the area as well for extra wood and a log border for the walls. (Again not done originally, I never knew it looked better mixing materials up for homes.)

You may be thinking at first, it's going to look very much the same, but, if you look carefully, you can already see from the overhead shot there's no diagonal walls! There are two corners though, to stop it being a total cube, and as shown lots of windows this time to let in plenty of light during the day. Also there's the bare bones for an actual kitchen this time, and I've re-used the idea from the Beta version of a front porch. From the view facing away from the kitchen (Standing in the kitchen) you can see a wall covering the side of the stairs. It won't just be a single storey this time I plan on having it a proper two level house! In the space behind said wall, underneath the stairs, there's extra storage space.

That was before Christmas, i did start to add a ceiling, but stopped when i got hit by a creeper, went to get my stuff, got blown up again and lost everything. I  have picked it back up today though.

I went to painterly.net this morning and re-d-d the World#1 texture pack with all the modern bits (cauldrons, other 1.0 stuff), sticking to previous choices for the most part, but making some small changes. At the moment I've called the texture pack a "trial version" as changed may be made yet. So here are the latest pictures from today's work!:

I also begun digging underneath, not originally done, for a basement:

Mushroom farm (Brown mushrooms on the other side of one of the walls):

And future indoor wheat farm:

The last thing I did before this post was going to the nether to get Glowstone. When I got back, I started changing the pillars of the old wooden bridge, the first sky-bridge, to incorporate them better (like I did in Beta), rather than have them sticking out on the sides as they were in 2010. This also led to a decision, due to the placement of the pillars, to widen the bridge again and make it the walk-way double width. even doggies could cross it. As I had just got Glowstone, I changed the torches on top of the pillars to it, and think it makes it alot better:

Before & After:

At Night:

I want to work to get the ceiling finished and the wheat farm up and running, then I'll begin building up stairs!
