Back To The Beginning

First off, big apologies for the slight delay with the release of my World#2 to the public. With the run up to Christmas, I naturally, like so many, have been extremely busy and haven't managed to finish the final details of compacting the file together. I hope to release it in the new year. Apologies again, but life happens.

So, anyone remember this world?:

This is the other post that I was going to do before Christmas.

This old world was the first saved world I made! It can be found at the very beginning of this blog, with it's development. The idea of the world was building a home on different mountains and building "Sky-bridges" between them across the sky. When 1.5 beta came out I found the seed and did a beta version with the seed (Found using Minecraft tools). Unfortunately because the terrain generation I didn't get exactly the same terrain (Spawn point and beyond it across the sea, and beyond the second mountain.), however, the initial center area with the two, mountains and mine at ground level was exactly the same. I did love the new version of that wooden home though.

Thinking about that just before Christmas, I wondered about redoing the idea again - a "What if" scenario as in "What I did it after a year of laying Minecraft, in 1.0). I couldn't re-use the seed as before for the same reason - terrain generation, so, I decided instead to just copy the world and rename it. This would make things slightly harder  - (exhausted caves, finding ores) , but it would mean I would have to travel further, something I never really did with this world back in 2010 when I started it.

See a gallery of World#1: Here.

First things first, was pulling down the second home, the wooden hut by hand and saving the resources! Includes a few "before" shots before the work began.

Note: From here on in, I didn't use the later texture pack, painterly, as it was so out-dated and later versions with new objects would just be white blocks. So I have used default.

And now the de-construction! I couldn't use TNT as I needed to keep all the resources, everything will be re-used.

Something I never did originally, as seen in the last picture, was landscaping. As you can see the base for the house is filled out a lot more and much more squarer as a base. I've kept the path pretty much exactly as it is, except for the first corner where it turns, with a squarer base it means nor strange diagonal walls inside like there originally was. When I sat through night time, there were a LOT of mob noises from underneath me, so during the last part of the night as it ted day I filled in what was a massive hole under the base. (I had forgotten that was there!)

In the morning, I used the resources of the old house to begin making the new one, also chopping down all the old trees in the area as well for extra wood and a log border for the walls. (Again not done originally, I never knew it looked better mixing materials up for homes.)

You may be thinking at first, it's going to look very much the same, but, if you look carefully, you can already see from the overhead shot there's no diagonal walls! There are two corners though, to stop it being a total cube, and as shown lots of windows this time to let in plenty of light during the day. Also there's the bare bones for an actual kitchen this time, and I've re-used the idea from the Beta version of a front porch. From the view facing away from the kitchen (Standing in the kitchen) you can see a wall covering the side of the stairs. It won't just be a single storey this time I plan on having it a proper two level house! In the space behind said wall, underneath the stairs, there's extra storage space.

That was before Christmas, i did start to add a ceiling, but stopped when i got hit by a creeper, went to get my stuff, got blown up again and lost everything. I  have picked it back up today though.

I went to painterly.net this morning and re-d-d the World#1 texture pack with all the modern bits (cauldrons, other 1.0 stuff), sticking to previous choices for the most part, but making some small changes. At the moment I've called the texture pack a "trial version" as changed may be made yet. So here are the latest pictures from today's work!:

I also begun digging underneath, not originally done, for a basement:

Mushroom farm (Brown mushrooms on the other side of one of the walls):

And future indoor wheat farm:

The last thing I did before this post was going to the nether to get Glowstone. When I got back, I started changing the pillars of the old wooden bridge, the first sky-bridge, to incorporate them better (like I did in Beta), rather than have them sticking out on the sides as they were in 2010. This also led to a decision, due to the placement of the pillars, to widen the bridge again and make it the walk-way double width. even doggies could cross it. As I had just got Glowstone, I changed the torches on top of the pillars to it, and think it makes it alot better:

I want to work to get the ceiling finished and the wheat farm up and running, then I'll begin building up stairs!

Modern Living

This'll be the last post before Christmas, then I'm going away and won't be back for 4/5 days. I don't have that much to post about it's mainly pictures of the kitchen and new walls of this world that I posted about yesterday. There is one other thing I could post about but I'll save that for when I get back.

So whilst I finished paving the future kitchen floor with wood planks I smelted the clay blobs in the furnace. Three furnaces in fact. I'm not sure why I had three furnaces on me , but there you go, it helped. As soon as I finished laying the floor of the future kitchen I did encounter a problem however. Obviously if I changed the mountain walls to sand (Which is what I used for the kitchen walls in the end), it would show on the outside of the mountain, so I added "Inner walls". This however made the kitchen much, much smaller.

You can just see the start of the new brick walls. (Plus new railings)

In the end, because it was now so small with the "Inner walls" - I just said forget it, and just took the walls back a block to the original dirt walls, even if two showed outside. it doesn't look too bad however.

And yeah, I did make it two width outside the door so I could add a safe step and a surround with railing. It's a nice look-out point when you go outside too!

I'll probably add a pitched roof over both windows anyway which will cover most of it. But here it is, the kitchen!:

It still needs a fridge but, I'm very pleased with the way it turned out! It's compact but stylish and modern. Originally in the apartments on World#2, I was going to have this glass block idea between the log pillars so I used the idea here. The chest all have there work surfaces (Trapdoors/hatches), and there's plenty of storage, loads more than you'd need for a kitchen! There's a funny story at how I arrived at this arch though:

Originally it was just glass panes for decoration along the left and right edge, but then I added the top bar over the glass. I couldn't use sand as it would fall, so I used sandstone. That was okay, but it looked kinda silly so I changed the left and right sides below it to Sandstone also and then just filled up the top completely in the middle with glass panes. This looked okay but there was something missing, it was only when i stepped back that i realized it'd look better with the four blocks on top of the bad (The last in the dead center) as sandstone. That's how the evaluation of the arch evolved. Now I can stop staring down this little gangway (With diner table) for the first picture view! it'll look better when the ceiling above it is all wool, but I absolutely love that arch design!

Incidentally that side window by the dinning table was also an evolved idea. When replacing the dirt with sand I did everything but the space under the three window panes. I was just about to add sand under there when i liked how open it looked, so instead of glass I just added more window panes. It does look nice though, as a feature window, and had a nice view, which was also part of the reason:

After a venture out I also had a visitor who decided to stay for tea!

Not the new kitchen!

How close can I get without him blowing? (Er not sure this was a good idea having only just finished the kitchen!)

And then he went to Creeper heaven... (Or hell?)

I just found it hilarious that not only did he get stuck in there, but it actually looked like he was sat at the table ready for tea!

Oh, and of course the brick work, some of which you've seen in part:

Incidentally, The storage room is actually looking more like one now:

Thief zombie gonna be stealin' your stuff! (Actually trying to sneak in the window! Hmph!)

Light changes..

So as I plan a build (On my creative copy) for the horrible chunk error wall next tot the hotel at the Chunk Plaza development, i've be...
